Through forward-looking investments, managing director Marco Jobst and his team have laid the foundations for achieving technological leadership in the company’s primary business areas. Numerous investments at various locations effectively support this process and help reduce the burden on the environment.

With more than 240 employees, three cathaphoretic e-coating plants, and four powder coating plants, we are already one of the most efficient and versatile contract coating companies in Germany.

In-house developments in the field of plant engineering, which have already resulted in several international patents, ensure the highest technical standards.

Through partnerships with renowned plant manufacturers, we are always familiar with new developments and can implement them promptly.

Our company,
our history

1979

Erich and Lieselotte Krämer found Metob Beschichtungen GmbH on July 1st. Production and administration are located at Heckenweg 2 in Michelau, initially in rented rooms.

1982

A 10,000 m² plot of land is purchased in the industrial park on Röthenstraße. After a short planning period, construction of the 2,500 m² building can begin.

1983

Production will start in the new premises as early as spring.

1986

The built-up area has grown to 4500 m² – enough space for a cathaphoretic e-coating system, which was planned and manufactured entirely by metob.

1988

The building area will be expanded to 7,000 m² with the construction of a new warehouse.

1993

Metob designs and installs a horizontal system for the additional facade coating division on its own.

1996

A hall with an associated vertical powder coating system is purchased in Switzerland, dismantled, and rebuilt in Michelau. After extensive modifications, it is the first system of its kind with a chrome-free pretreatment process.

2000

The course is set for company succession. Mr. and Mrs. Krämer entrust their son Matthias with the task of managing and developing the Metob Group.

2001

Metob celebrates the opening of its plant in Treuen. This will increase capacity in the area of powder coating for building components.

2003

In order to meet the growing demand for wet painting, Metob is expanding its range of services it offers with an additional location in Grub am Forst.

2004

New plants are being built in Hildburghausen and Czechia. Metob enters into a joint venture that has grown out of a long-standing collaboration with a customer.

2005

A fully enclosed wet paint system is put into operation. This enables Metob to meet the high requirements of automobile manufacturers and their suppliers.

2006

Metob coats mirror reflector panels for a space telescope.

2007

Following the succesful conversion of the plant for degreasing and etch-passivation of aluminium components, aprroval has been given for series production.

2010

Metob acquires premium coating company KB in Treuchtlingen, significantly expanding its powder coating capacity for architectural components.

2011

Two new buildings with a total area of approximately 1,650 m² are set to further optimize logistics processes in Michelau.

2013

Acquisition of the property in Hildburghausen. Long-term commitment to this location and its employees.

2017

Withdrawal from the building components coating business. Reorientation of the Metob Group towards industrial coating.

2018

As part of the long-term corporate succession plan, Marco Jobst will join the management team of the Metob Group on January 1, 2018, having previously held the position of commercial director for many years.

2018

Metob is converting two plants at its Michelau site, thereby increasing its capacity for coating automotive components. Further investments are being made in logistics areas at the Michelau and Hildburghausen plants.

2019

Outsourcing of wet paint coating. Focus on powder coating, cathodic electrocoating, and degreasing and etch-passivation.

2020

Mr. Marco Jobst is taking over the company and intends to further develop the group with commitment and entrepreneurial expertise.

2020

Commissioning of the first photovoltaic system at the Michelau site.

2021

Climate neutral and CO² free according to Scope 2.

2023

Commissioning of an 8-turbine wire belt blasting system at the Hildburghausen site to expand our pretreatment capabilities.
