Erich and Lieselotte Krämer founded Metob Beschichtungen GmbH on July 1st. Production and administration are located at Heckenweg 2 in Michelau, initially in rented rooms.
A 10,000 m² plot of land was purchased in the industrial park on Röthenstraße. After a short planning period, construction of the 2,500 m² building could begin.
Production started at the new facility as early as spring.
The built-up area grew to 4,500 m² – enough space for a cataphoretic e-coating system, which was planned and manufactured entirely by Metob.
The building area was expanded to 7,000 m² with the construction of a new warehouse.
Metob designed and installed a horizontal system for the additional facade coating division on its own.
A hall with an associated vertical powder coating system was purchased in Switzerland, dismantled, and rebuilt in Michelau. After extensive modifications, it was the first system of its kind with a chrome-free pretreatment process.
The course was set for company succession. Mr. and Mrs. Krämer entrusted their son Matthias with the task of managing and developing the Metob Group.
Metob celebrated the opening of its plant in Treuen. This increased capacity in the area of powder coating for building components.
In order to meet the growing demand for wet painting, Metob expanded the range of services it offered with an additional location in Grub am Forst.
New plants were built in Hildburghausen and Czechia. Metob entered into a joint venture that grew out of a long-standing collaboration with a customer.
A fully enclosed wet paint system was put into operation. This enabled Metob to meet the high requirements of automobile manufacturers and their suppliers.

Metob acquired premium coating company KB in Treuchtlingen, significantly expanding its powder coating capacity for architectural components.

As part of the long-term corporate succession plan, Marco Jobst joined the management team of the Metob Group on January 1, 2018, having previously held the position of commercial director for many years.
Metob converted two plants at its Michelau site, thereby increasing its capacity for coating automotive components. Further investments were made in logistics areas at the Michelau and Hildburghausen plants.
